Audio filter help?

I have a question about the audio filters in Adobe Premiere 5.1

I recently finished a day of shooting, but sadly lost the audio for the first 6 shots or so.

I do, however, still have the audio that was recorded by the camera, but understandably, it's of a significantly lower quality than the audio recorded by the boom mike.

I was shooting in an office, and the acoustics are such that they give off a slight echo - basically, the sound isn't clean.

I need to essentially improve the quality of this audio, and I was wondering, what filters are available in Premiere 5.1 that would allow me to do this?

None that are of help - I expect. I haven't used Prem audio filters for ages cos they're rubbish. Much better to use Sound Forge or Vegas Pro and some custom DirectX plugins.

The acoustics may not be the problem, just the fact that generally cam mics are narrow band when compared to decent hi-fi equipment. Although if the actors weren't mic'd very close then I spose the echo could be really bad. You could try to EQ so that dialogue sounds better, and remove any hiss.

If the audio levels weren't set then you'll also have another headache - I guess you could use a compression plugin to try and level out the audio.

In this situation I would be tempted just to do some ADR (just re-record the actor's voices in a studio - or in a corner of your bedroom with plenty of pillows and duvets!!)

I was really surprised that El Mariachi dialogue was not shot sync - it was recorded immediately after each shot. So this proves that it is very much do-able.

Ok - I suppose that there's some stuff in a program like Cool Edit Pro that I can use, yeah?
